Important Reminders for Parents and Students

·         Please be reminded that our school’s cell phone policy requires all students to have their phones turned off and kept in their book bags or purses (not in their pockets) throughout the school day. If students are caught with their phones out, in use, or in their pockets, they will be confiscated and turned over to the SRO until the end of the school year.  The inappropriate use of cell phones continue to create major disturbances and safety issues for the school; therefore, policies have been put in place to help maintain an environment which is conducive to learning.

We ask that you discuss this matter with your child to ensure that you and the child fully understand the consequences if the policy is violated.  However, if you feel that you cannot support our efforts and do not want your child’s phone taken away as indicated above, then please have your child to keep his/her phone at home.

§  Parents, please encourage your child to participate in our 21st Century after school program, which is held on Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 until 5:30pm each week. We will also hold another session of Saturday school on Saturday, April 22 from 9 – 1:00 pm.  Breakfast, lunch, and transportation will be provided. This is another opportunity for students to receive additional practice to improve those critical skills that they will be tested on within a few days.

§  Please sign your child up for our 21st Century Summer Camp, which will be held on the campus of Carter-Parramore Academy this year due to reconfiguration projects that will be taking place at Shanks throughout the summer.  Applications can be picked up at the school or at the district office.

§  Our next Achievement Assembly will be held at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, April 21tst in the gym.  This is a special program where our honor roll students are recognized and rewarded for their academic success. Parents are always invited to attend.  A special reception will immediately follow the program.

§  Notices will be sent home for students who are in danger of failing for the school year and for students who owe for lost or damaged books.  All debts must be cleared before students will be allowed to participate in school events such as the 8th grade progression program, prom, team trips, school carnivals and other team activities.  Also, students will not receive final report cards, transcripts, yearbooks, test scores, etc. until debts have been cleared.  We are asking our parents to support us in this important matter.

§  Parent/Student/Teacher climate surveys are now available on the district’s website.  Please take a few minutes to provide your input by completing the survey.  Your feedback will be beneficial in helping us to plan for the upcoming school year.

Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation in these matters
